Washington DC [US], July 31 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has stated that the quickest way to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is for Hamas to surrender and release the hostages it is holding. “The fastest way to end the Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza is for Hamas to SURRENDER AND RELEASE THE HOSTAGES!!!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday.
The remarks come as US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Thursday, just a week after the United States withdrew from ceasefire negotiations, accusing Hamas of negotiating in bad faith. Last week, Witkoff had indicated that Washington was evaluating “alternative options” for ending the war after its delegation left the talks.
According to CNN, Trump was deeply moved after watching television footage showing starving children in Gaza the night before he departed for a trip to Scotland. He reportedly asked his aides about what the United States could do to alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis.
“I think everybody, unless they’re pretty cold-hearted, or worse than that, nuts — there’s nothing you can say other than it’s terrible when you see the kids,” Trump said during his visit to his golf properties in Scotland.
In an unusual public break with the Israeli government, Trump also challenged Prime Minister Netanyahu’s recent assertion that “there is no starvation in Gaza.” Trump said, “Some of those kids are, that’s real starvation stuff. I see it, and you can’t fake that. So, we’re going to be even more involved.”
He further announced that the US would begin establishing “food centres” in Gaza to address the hunger crisis. This initiative marks a potential policy shift by the Trump administration toward deeper humanitarian engagement in the conflict.
According to the Gaza health ministry, more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s war on Hamas began nearly two years ago. The prolonged conflict has drawn international condemnation and urgent calls for a ceasefire, with humanitarian organizations warning of a rapidly deteriorating situation on the ground. (ANI)
