Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], August 20 (ANI): North Gujarat is rapidly establishing itself as a leading automotive manufacturing hub, driven by Suzuki Motors’ facility with an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh cars, according to an official statement from the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). The facility is set to expand further with a fourth production line, involving an investment of ₹32 billion, aimed at boosting electric vehicle production in the state.
Between 2012 and 2015, Gujarat attracted significant investments from international automobile manufacturers, with a landmark moment in 2014 when Suzuki signed an MoU to establish a mega manufacturing unit in the state. Over the years, these investments have created substantial employment opportunities and positioned Suzuki Motor’s Gujarat plant among the largest automobile manufacturing facilities in India, catalyzing growth in the auto component industry around Mehsana.
Gujarat’s robust port infrastructure has further reinforced its status as a strategic export hub, with exports valued at approximately ₹3,459 crore in 2024. Key destinations include South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Japan, the UAE, and Chile. The state recorded total investments of ₹29,700 crore in the automobile sector during FY 2022-23, reflecting a strong CAGR of 16.4 per cent over five years.
The Mandal Becharaji Special Investment Region (SIR) has emerged as a major auto-industrial hub. Recent announcements by Suzuki include a ₹7,300 crore battery plant for electric vehicles and a ₹3,100 crore EV manufacturing facility.
These developments underscore Gujarat’s rise as a global automotive powerhouse as the state prepares to host the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conferences (VGRC), which will showcase growth opportunities for global investors in the automotive and allied sectors. (ANI)
