New Delhi [India], August 20 (ANI): A case has been registered under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempted murder, carrying imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine, at Civil Lines Police Station following the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Rajesh, has been taken into police custody.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Special Cell are interrogating Rajesh. According to Delhi Police, he arrived in Delhi from Rajkot by train on Tuesday morning and stayed at Gujarati Bhavan in Civil Lines. Police investigations indicate that Rajesh informed a friend in Gujarat over the phone about reaching the CM House in Shalimar Bagh. Authorities are expected to seek his remand, with further investigation ongoing from multiple angles.
CCTV footage from the Chief Minister’s residence revealed that the attack was premeditated. The footage shows the attacker conducting reconnaissance and preparing for the assault at least 24 hours in advance. The Chief Minister’s Office stated, “The cowardly attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is part of a well-planned conspiracy. The attacker did a recce of the Chief Minister’s residence, recorded a video of the premises, and attempted the attack in a planned manner.”
The video evidence has been handed over to the police, and an intensive investigation is underway. (ANI)
