Sindh [Pakistan], October 7 (ANI): At least seven people were injured Tuesday after a blast on a railway track derailed four bogies of the Jaffar Express in Shikarpur district, Sindh, officials confirmed.
Shikarpur’s Deputy Commissioner Shakeel Abro told Dawn that the explosion occurred at 8:15 a.m., about one kilometre from Sultan Kot railway station. Four of the injured were admitted to the Combined Military Hospital, while three others were taken to the Civil Hospital in Shikarpur.
The Jaffar Express, bound for Quetta via Jacobabad, faced significant disruption. Sukkur Divisional Transport Officer Mohsin Ali Sial said passengers were being transferred to nearby stations so repairs could begin on the track.
Shikarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Shahzeb Chachar noted that the blast targeted a single track used by trains travelling between Quetta and Jacobabad. The remaining bogies continued toward Jacobabad while police in Shikarpur and Jacobabad began investigating to trace those responsible.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah condemned the incident, requesting a report from the Sindh police inspector general. He also directed the Larkana commissioner to ensure medical assistance for the injured passengers, according to Radio Pakistan.
This blast follows a series of attacks involving the Jaffar Express. In late September, six bogies of the same train were derailed in Balochistan, and in March, militants from the Baloch Liberation Army hijacked the train, killing 21 passengers and four security personnel before Pakistani forces neutralised all 33 attackers and rescued hundreds of passengers.
