Guwahati (Assam) [India], October 23 (ANI): Students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati have clinched first prize in the 2025 Global 24-Hour Animation Contest, an international challenge organized by Toon Boom Animation. This year, the competition saw participation from 185 institutions across 35 countries.
Under the guidance of Dr. Mriganka Madhukaillya, Assistant Professor, Department of Design, the team comprising Arin Bandyopadhyay, Aditya Ravi Pawar, Aseel Pasha, and S. Balasankar competed against 764 teams and 3,820 students to emerge victorious.
The contest theme, “Flip Your Perspective,” required participants to produce a 30-second animated short film within 24 hours. The IIT Guwahati team’s creative interpretation and technical execution earned them the top spot among hundreds of entries worldwide.
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, congratulated the team, stating, “This achievement reflects the creativity and hard work of our students and faculty. Winning an international competition of this scale is a testament to the world-class talent nurtured at IIT Guwahati.”
The 24-hour contest is internationally recognised for its demanding rules. Participants are given the theme at midnight and must complete storyboarding and the final animation within 24 hours. No pre-made content or artwork is allowed, and AI tools for visuals or sound are strictly prohibited. Submissions must be uploaded before the deadline, with even a one-second delay resulting in disqualification.
This year’s competition was sponsored by leading animation studios and organizations including Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Sony Pictures Animation, Nickelodeon, Warner Bros. Animation, Bento Box, Netflix, Cartoon Saloon, Illumination, DreamWorks, Wacom, XP-Pen, ASIFA Hollywood, Animation Is Film Festival, and Toon Boom Animation.
As the first prize, the IIT Guwahati team has won student passes to the Toronto Animation Arts Festival International (TAAFI) 2026, professional animation software licenses, studio memberships, and mentorship sessions with Disney animators. (ANI)
