India hands over 3.5 tonnes medicine consignment to Seychelles

Victoria [Seychelles], November 20 (ANI): India on Thursday handed over a 3.5-tonne consignment of medicines to Seychelles, including treatments for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, gastrointestinal ailments, and essential vitamins and supplements.

The handover took place in the presence of President Patrick Herminie, with High Commissioner Rohit Rathish formally presenting the consignment to Minister of Health Dr. Marvin Fanny.

In a post on X, the Indian High Commission stated, “Today, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Patrick Herminie, President of the Republic of Seychelles, High Commissioner of India Shri Rohit Rathish handed over a consignment of medicines to Minister of Health Dr. Marvin Fanny. The consignment of 3.5 tonnes includes medicines for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, gastrointestinal ailments, vitamins & supplements. This donation reaffirms India’s commitment to support Seychelles in its development priorities.”

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan had earlier concluded a visit to Seychelles from October 26–27 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Patrick Herminie. The Ministry of External Affairs said his visit underscored the importance India attaches to its partnership with Seychelles under Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) and its commitment to the Global South.

During the visit, Vice President Radhakrishnan called on President Herminie and met Vice President Sebastien Pillay. He conveyed greetings and congratulations to the new government on behalf of India. He also met Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam and addressed members of the Indian diaspora at a community reception.

India and Seychelles share long-standing ties rooted in democratic values and pluralism. The Government of India expressed readiness to work closely with the new administration under President Herminie to further strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation. (ANI)
