New Delhi [India], January 7: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal met with top Liechtenstein officials on Wednesday to advance economic ties and promote the implementation of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). This marks the first visit by an Indian Cabinet Minister to the country, highlighting deepening bilateral relations following the operationalisation of the trade pact.
Goyal met with Liechtenstein Prime Minister Brigitte Haas to discuss boosting investment flows, manufacturing growth, and job creation. He emphasised combining India’s young talent with Liechtenstein’s advanced industrial capabilities, focusing on skill development, vocational training, and industry-academia linkages.
The Minister also met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sabine Monauni to explore opportunities in trade expansion, innovation, and clean technology. Goyal highlighted the potential for sustainable finance, green investments, energy transition, and climate action under the TEPA framework.
During a courtesy call on H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois, Goyal conveyed an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the India-AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February 2026.
The India-EFTA TEPA, signed in March 2024 and effective from October 1, 2025, includes Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. The agreement aims to bring capital, technology, and resilient supply chains to India while strengthening mutual investment and innovation opportunities.
