Amritsar (Punjab) [India], May 19 (ANI): In acts of bravery and valor, the Indian armed forces successfully protected several cities in India’s border states during a recent conflict with Pakistan. The conflict saw drone attacks and other air assaults intercepted and destroyed before causing damage to civilian areas. The Indian Army’s Air Defense systems played a crucial role in repelling these threats.
On Monday, the Army demonstrated how Indian Air Defense systems, including the AKASH missile system and L-70 Air Defense Guns, protected the Golden Temple in Amritsar and other cities in Punjab from Pakistani missile and drone attacks.
Major General Kartik C. Seshadri, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Infantry Division, stated that the Indian Army had anticipated Pakistan’s plan to target military installations along with civilian sites, including religious places such as the Golden Temple. According to intelligence, the Golden Temple was considered a prime target.
“Knowing that the Pak Army does not have any legitimate targets, we anticipated that they would target Indian military installations, civilian targets, and religious places. Of these, the Golden Temple appeared to be the most prominent. We mobilized additional modern air defense assets to provide a holistic air defense umbrella cover to the Golden Temple,” Major General Seshadri said.
He detailed that Pakistan engaged in an air assault using aerial weapons, including drones and long-range missiles, specifically targeting the Golden Temple. However, the Indian Army, well-prepared for such an attack, intercepted and neutralized all aerial threats.
“On 8th May, in the early morning hours of darkness, Pakistan carried out a massive air assault with unmanned aerial weapons, primarily drones and long-range missiles. We were fully prepared, and our alert army air defense gunners thwarted Pakistan Army’s nefarious designs, shooting down all drones and missiles aimed at the Golden Temple. Not a single scratch was inflicted on our holy Golden Temple,” Seshadri said.
Major General Seshadri also elaborated on the Pahalgam terror attack’s consequences, which led to the launch of Operation Sindoor. India conducted punitive strikes against nine terror camps deep within Pakistan, targeting exclusive terror sites with “absolute precision.” Notably, locations like Muridke and Bahawalpur, housing the headquarters of terrorist organizations, were struck.
He emphasized that India’s Air Defense Systems displayed their effectiveness during the heightened tensions, successfully intercepting numerous drones, missiles, micro UAVs, and loitering munitions. The Indian Air Defense system proved to be a globally acknowledged defense asset. (ANI)
