CUPERTINO, Calif., June 9 — Apple on Monday unveiled iOS 27, the next major update to its mobile operating system, during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, highlighting performance enhancements, design refinements, and expanded support for older devices.
According to The Verge, Apple said the update will be “available to more users than any iOS release ever,” with all iPhone models from the iPhone 11 onward eligible to receive the software upgrade.
One of the most notable additions in iOS 27 is an opacity slider for Liquid Glass, the design language introduced with iOS 26. Liquid Glass brought translucent visual elements and new animations across the iPhone interface but drew criticism over readability concerns.
The new slider will allow users to adjust the transparency of interface elements, including tab bars, giving them greater control over the visual appearance of the operating system.
Apple also said iOS 27 will deliver smoother system animations, faster app loading times, and improvements to its search infrastructure, enabling newly added content to be indexed almost immediately.
At the start of the keynote presentation, Apple also previewed new developments related to Apple Intelligence and an enhanced version of Siri.
The update represents Apple’s latest effort to expand its Apple Intelligence platform, which was first introduced at WWDC 2024.
During that event, Apple unveiled a redesigned AI-powered Siri. However, in March 2025, the company announced that the upgraded assistant would be delayed, saying the new features were taking “longer than we thought” to develop and deliver.
Additional details about Apple Intelligence and the next-generation Siri are expected as Apple continues development ahead of the public release of iOS 27.
