MANAMA, Bahrain, June 27 (ANI) — Bahrain on Saturday accused Iran of launching several drones into its territory, saying the attack violated the kingdom’s sovereignty and threatened efforts to preserve peace and stability in the region.
The reported drone strike occurred just hours after the United States and Iran exchanged military strikes for the first time since the implementation of a ceasefire intended to end recent hostilities in West Asia.
In an official statement, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned what it described as an attack by “several Iranian drones” early Saturday morning. The ministry said the incident constituted a “flagrant violation” of Bahrain’s sovereignty and accused Tehran of undermining ongoing efforts to maintain regional stability.
Iran has not publicly responded to Bahrain’s allegations. However, Tehran has accused Washington of violating the ceasefire after the United States carried out strikes against Iranian military assets, prompting Iran to launch retaliatory attacks on U.S. military installations in the Gulf.
According to the Bahraini government, the reported drone attack was a deliberate attempt to undermine diplomatic efforts following the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
The latest developments mark a significant escalation in regional tensions, as military operations have once again spread across the Gulf despite recent diplomatic initiatives aimed at preventing a broader conflict.
The direct exchange of military strikes between Washington and Tehran has heightened concerns that the fragile ceasefire could quickly unravel if hostilities continue.
Adding to regional security concerns, a commercial tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified projectile on Saturday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
UKMTO said the vessel’s bridge sustained damage, but all crew members were reported safe. The agency said it received a report from the ship’s master at 8 a.m. GMT confirming that the tanker had been struck while navigating the strategic maritime chokepoint.
Authorities have not identified the source of the projectile, and no official link has been established between the maritime incident and the broader regional escalation.
The latest maritime attack follows an earlier strike on a commercial cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz that triggered the current military confrontation between the United States and Iran.
The U.S. military said it subsequently launched targeted strikes against Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, along with coastal radar sites, after holding Iran responsible for the attack on the cargo ship.
U.S. Central Command described the operation as a direct response to what it called “unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping” that violated the ceasefire.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later announced that its forces had targeted U.S. military installations in the Gulf in retaliation for the American strikes. While the group did not disclose the locations of the targets, it warned that any further military action would provoke an even stronger response.
The rapid succession of military strikes, coupled with the reported drone attack on Bahrain and continued security incidents involving commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, has intensified international concern over the stability of one of the world’s most critical energy corridors. (ANI)
