BSF comes with Decision Support System to strengthen operational efficiency

New Delhi [India], September 29 (ANI): In a major step towards modernising border management, the Border Security Force (BSF) has launched a first-of-its-kind technological initiative — the Decision Support System (DSS) — to enhance operational efficiency and enable real-time decision-making across all levels of command. The system was inaugurated by BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary at the force headquarters.

The DSS offers commanders a role-based access system through custom-designed dashboards, enabling operations to be planned and executed based on informed decisions. Integrating advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) functionalities, the DSS merges GIS platforms with legacy operations, incident databases, and sensor feeds from the border to form a Complete Operating Picture (COP) at headquarters.

Operationally, the DSS will provide the BSF with monitoring capabilities, predictive analytics, and trend analysis to improve border management. It will employ Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) on GIS and legacy data to predict smuggling hotspots, infiltration routes, and other threats, thereby enabling better resource allocation and operational planning.

Future plans include integrating the DSS with the CIBMS, other BSF command centres, and GIS platforms of other security forces and organisations. Mobile applications will also be developed to enable real-time data collection and incident reporting. In subsequent phases, the DSS will incorporate data sources such as OSINT, Big Data, and IMD (India Meteorological Department) data to strengthen predictive and operational capabilities.

The DSS is designed to significantly improve the BSF’s operational readiness and capability to safeguard India’s borders and national interests, equipping commanders with precise tools for strategic decision-making. By harnessing technological solutions, the BSF aims to effectively counter emerging threats to border security.
