New Delhi [India], October 15 (ANI): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi on Wednesday held discussions with General Nguyen Van Nghia, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnamese Army, to bolster defence cooperation, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) of the Indian Army reported. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations Training and Coordination Conference (UNTCC) in New Delhi.
In a post on X, ADGPI stated that the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing defence collaboration, with particular emphasis on UN peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and strategic coordination. They also highlighted the importance of training exchanges and joint military exercises.
The discussions follow a recent engagement between the Indian and Vietnamese armed forces in Thailand in August, when Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC) of India, met senior Vietnamese defence officials during the CHODs 2025 conference, according to the Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS).
The interaction occurred as India hosted the United Nations Troop Contributing Countries’ (UNTCC) Chiefs Conclave on October 14, bringing together senior military leaders from over 30 nations to share perspectives on the evolving global security environment and explore ways to strengthen cooperation in advancing world peace.
During the Conclave, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix highlighted the UN’s evolution in addressing contemporary security challenges. Deliberations focused on strengthening peacekeeping cooperation through enhanced dialogue, interoperability, and exchange of best practices; leveraging indigenous technology and Atmanirbhar innovations for more resilient and cost-effective missions; promoting inclusivity by advocating for greater representation of troop-contributing countries in UN decision-making; and showcasing India as a trusted partner committed to building global capacities for international peace.
