NEW DELHI, May 24 (ANI) — India and Russia held discussions aimed at further deepening their military partnership during the 5th Sub Working Group (Land) meeting held under the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission (IRIGC) on Military and Military Technical Cooperation.
Sharing details of the meeting in a post on X, the Indian Army described the talks as another significant milestone in strengthening defense ties between the Indian Army and the Russian Land Forces.
The Indian Army said both sides held “productive deliberations” focused on enhancing mutual learning, operational synergy, and bilateral military capabilities, further reinforcing the longstanding India-Russia defense partnership.
According to the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), the delegation also visited the Shatrujeet Brigade to explore additional avenues for defense cooperation.
The latest military engagement comes as India and Russia continue to strengthen what both countries describe as a “privileged strategic partnership.”
During his visit to India earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow and New Delhi had engaged in detailed discussions covering defense manufacturing, space cooperation, and fertilizer supply.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi following the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Lavrov said he held extensive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
According to Lavrov, the discussions were guided by the agreements reached during the India-Russia summit held in New Delhi in December 2025 between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Modi.
“During the talks with the Foreign Minister of India, S. Jaishankar, and during a lengthy reception and conversation with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, we discussed the key areas of our privileged strategic partnership,” Lavrov said.
The Russian foreign minister stated that the roadmap for future cooperation includes joint weapons production, expanded collaboration in the space sector, and efforts to stabilize fertilizer supplies.
Lavrov also said both nations are working to strengthen cooperation mechanisms to shield bilateral economic ties from what he described as “negative, unfriendly pressure from third countries.”
Energy security also featured prominently in the discussions, with Lavrov emphasizing that Russia remains attentive to India’s energy requirements.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the BRICS summit scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 12-13 under India’s 2026 chairmanship.
The Russian Embassy in South Africa, citing Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, announced the visit in a post on X.
If completed, the trip would mark Putin’s second visit to India within a year. He last visited New Delhi during the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in December 2025. (ANI)
