POONCH, Jammu and Kashmir, June 10 (ANI) — Indian Army troops detained a 15- to 16-year-old boy from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Monday evening after he crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
The teenager, identified as Javed Ali, son of Mohd Sharaz of Tetrinote, PoK, was intercepted at approximately 7:45 p.m. near Salotri in Haveli Tehsil.
Further details regarding the incident are awaited.
In a separate development, 48 Pakistani fishermen and 19 Pakistani civilian prisoners who had completed their sentences were repatriated through the Attari-Wagah border on Sept. 9, 2025.
Earlier, on Feb. 17, 2022, 12 Pakistani prisoners who had completed their sentences were repatriated to Pakistan through the Attari-Wagah land border, according to a statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
The Government of India has stated that it places high importance on humanitarian issues, including the early release and repatriation of Indian prisoners and fishermen.
According to the ministry, sustained diplomatic efforts resulted in the release and repatriation of 20 Indian fishermen from Pakistani custody in 2022.
Following Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terrorist attack, India revoked visas issued to Pakistani nationals residing in the country and initiated their deportation.
Pakistani citizens were also barred from traveling to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES).
India subsequently closed the Attari-Wagah border crossing, with the Integrated Check Post at Attari shut down with immediate effect. Individuals who had crossed the border with valid endorsements were directed to return through the same route before May 1, 2025.
India also suspended all bilateral trade with Pakistan, halting exports of key commodities such as onions and banning imports of products including cement and textiles.
The move effectively severed the primary land-based trade route between the two countries, significantly impacting bilateral economic ties.
According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the measures were intended to exert economic pressure on Pakistan while reinforcing India’s stated zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism without escalating direct military conflict. (ANI)
