Washington DC [US], May 15 (ANI): Richard Rossow, Chairperson of India and Emerging Asia Economics, has acknowledged India’s deeper global relationships as compared to Pakistan, emphasizing India’s leadership role in the Global South and its proactive stance against terrorism.
Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, Rossow stated, “Overall, India has a lot deeper relationships with a much larger set of countries. They certainly made their voice known over time on concerns about the ever-present threat of terrorism emanating from Pakistan.” He pointed out that most countries expressing opinions on the recent conflict have shown support for India, while those with differing views have remained relatively quiet or offered discreet support to Islamabad.
Rossow further noted that India’s global standing has improved significantly over the decades. “India has done a lot of work on trying to be a leader progressively in the Global South, its leadership at the G20, its engagement with the West, the Quad, things like that. So it’s not terribly surprising India finds a lot more friends when something like this escalates than, you know, maybe would have happened 25-30 years ago,” he added.
As of Wednesday, an Indian technical team is in New York, holding interactions with the Monitoring Team of the 1267 Sanctions Committee and other partner countries at the UN. The team is also expected to meet representatives from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED).
During a press briefing on Tuesday, Randhir Jaiswal, the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted the connections between the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack and The Resistance Front (TRF), a terror group that has twice claimed responsibility for the attack.
Rossow’s remarks underscore the evolving geopolitical landscape, where India’s strengthened global alliances contrast sharply with Pakistan’s more limited diplomatic support. (ANI)
