New Delhi [India], March 8 (ANI): India’s top leaders on Sunday extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of International Women’s Day, praising the strength, leadership and contributions of women in shaping the country’s development.

President Droupadi Murmu said that educated and empowered women are the pillars of a progressive nation, emphasizing that women’s achievements across diverse fields continue to strengthen the foundation of a more inclusive and prosperous society.

In a message posted on X, the President said, “Warm greetings to all on International Women’s Day! Educated and empowered women are the pillars of a progressive nation. As Nari Shakti continues to excel across diverse fields and lead with courage, it strengthens the foundations of a more inclusive and prosperous society.”

She further reaffirmed the country’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for women, adding that society must ensure every woman can live with dignity, safety, and freedom. The President urged citizens to work together to create an environment where the aspirations and achievements of women help shape a more equitable future.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended greetings to the nation and paid tribute to the determination, creativity and achievements of India’s Nari Shakti.

In a series of posts on X, the Prime Minister said women across every field are contributing to India’s progress with determination and unmatched zeal.

“On International Women’s Day, I extend my greetings to all our Nari Shakti. Across every field, women are shaping India’s progress with determination, creativity and unmatched zeal. Their achievements inspire our nation and strengthen our collective resolve to build a Viksit Bharat,” he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted that women’s empowerment remains central to many government schemes and initiatives, noting that the government is committed to creating opportunities that enable women to realize their full potential and contribute to India’s development journey.

He added that the achievements of India’s women are a powerful reminder of their transformative role in nation building and said their aspirations will continue to guide the country’s progress toward a strong and prosperous nation.

Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also extended greetings on the occasion, describing women as the driving force of development.

In a message on X, Kharge said women’s wisdom, resilience, compassion and determination strengthen communities and build stronger nations.

“Women are not merely participants in development. They are its driving force. Through their wisdom, resilience, compassion and determination, women strengthen communities and build stronger nations. On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the courage, leadership and countless contributions of women everywhere,” he said.

He added that true progress will be achieved when equality becomes a lived reality for every woman rather than just an aspiration.

Marking the occasion, the Ministry of Women and Child Development organized a women-led march titled “Shakti Walk #SheLeadsBharat” along Kartavya Path in New Delhi to celebrate women’s leadership and highlight their contributions across sectors.

The event aimed to promote awareness of government initiatives supporting women, reinforce commitments toward women’s safety and empowerment, and foster solidarity among women from diverse backgrounds.

Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, praised the initiative, saying it will raise awareness about policies aimed at improving women’s welfare in areas such as health, education and economic development.

International Women’s Day, observed globally on March 8, celebrates the achievements, leadership and contributions of women in all spheres of life and reaffirms the commitment to gender equality, dignity, safety and empowerment. (ANI)
