TEHRAN, Iran, May 7 (ANI): Iran is still reviewing the US proposal, but a response is expected by Thursday, according to Al Jazeera.
Although there is no official deadline for the response, Pakistani mediators are reportedly expecting one today. A lawmaker in the Iranian Parliament and a former foreign minister told Al Jazeera that a response would be sent to the United States.
Iran is currently focused on securing a cessation of the war on all fronts, adding that no nuclear talks are presently on the table. According to the report, Tehran is seeking guarantees directly from the United Nations Security Council, along with the lifting of sanctions and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
If those conditions are met, Iran is reportedly prepared in a second phase to discuss its nuclear program, Al Jazeera reported.
In the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has established a new body called the “Persian Gulf Strait Authority.” Iran stated that the maritime regime in the strait has changed and that any ship passing through must communicate with Iranian authorities prior to transit.
Iran on Wednesday also called for the United States and Israel to recognize the rights of the Iranian nation to pave the way for ending the war, Press TV reported.
“The American-Zionist enemy must accept the rights of the Iranian nation, and especially the US enemy must distance itself from the evil Zionist regime (Israel), and this will pave the way for the end of the war,” Press TV quoted Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik as saying.
Nik further said the United States could not emerge from the “quagmire it is stuck in” if it failed to recognize Iran’s rights and refused to distance itself from the “evil and criminal” Israeli regime. He added that Washington should accept the realities on the battlefield, according to Press TV. (ANI)
