Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, June 16 (ANI): Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Tuesday flagged off Phase I of Census 2027 by completing the self-enumeration process and registering his details through the digital self-enumeration platform at Lok Bhavan.
The self-enumeration process will be conducted in two phases. Phase I, the self-enumeration phase, will run from Aug. 1 to Aug. 14, 2026, while Phase II, covering house-listing operations, will take place from Aug. 16 to Sept. 14, 2026. The census operations will continue thereafter, culminating on the reference date of March 1, 2027.
The self-enumeration facility is open to the general public, allowing individuals to submit their details through the online portal.
During Phase I of the Houselisting and Housing Census, data on housing conditions, available amenities and assets possessed by individual households will be collected through house-to-house visits.
Census 2027 marks the largest administrative and statistical exercise in the world and is India’s first fully digital census, bidding farewell to the paper schedules that defined previous enumeration exercises over the past 150 years.
The census utilizes the country’s growing digital literacy and an app-based system for data collection, making the entire exercise seamless, transparent and entirely paperless. It is a 100 percent digital initiative and is expected to transform the world’s largest administrative exercise into one of the biggest examples of green governance.
In Kerala, Phase I of Census 2027 is scheduled from July 1 to July 30, 2026, and the self-enumeration facility is available from June 16 to June 30.
After completing the process, the governor urged the public to participate wholeheartedly in self-enumeration and contribute to an inclusive and accurate Census 2027.
Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak, District Collector Anukumari, General Administration Department Secretary K. Biju, Director of Census Operations Mitra T. IAS, Secretary to the Governor Anjali Jose and Executive Officer of the Census K. Vasuki were present on the occasion. (ANI)
