Washington DC [US], April 3 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has declared April 2, 2025, as “Liberation Day”, calling it a historic turning point for American industry. Speaking at the Make America Wealthy Again Event, Trump announced new reciprocal tariffs on foreign nations, marking a significant shift in US trade policy.
“My fellow Americans, this is Liberation Day, a day we have been waiting for a long time. April 2nd, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn, the day America’s destiny was reclaimed, and the day we began to Make America Wealthy Again,” Trump declared.
He emphasized that American taxpayers had been exploited for over 50 years and vowed to put an end to it.
Reciprocal Tariffs Policy
Trump signed a historic executive order imposing reciprocal tariffs, stating:
“Reciprocal: That means they do it to us, and we do it to them. This is our Declaration of Economic Independence. Hardworking American citizens have been forced to sit on the sidelines as other nations got rich at our expense. With today’s action, we are going to make America great again, greater than ever before.”
Impact on India
Earlier, Trump had hinted that India might be reducing tariffs on American goods, stating:
“I think I heard that India just a little while ago is going to be dropping its tariffs very substantially, and I said, why didn’t somebody do this a long time ago?”
The White House confirmed that these new tariffs would take effect immediately, potentially reshaping global trade dynamics.
