Major Attack on Pakistani Forces in Nokundi as Suicide Bomber Breaches FC Camp; BLF Claims Responsibility

Major attack on Pakistani forces in Nokundi

Balochistan [Pakistan], December 1 (ANI): A major assault targeted a camp of Pakistani forces in the Chagai district of Balochistan on Sunday evening when a suicide bomber detonated explosives at the main entrance of the Frontier Corps Headquarters in Nokundi, according to security officials cited by The Balochistan Post (TBP).

Officials stated that gunfire continued inside the facility following the initial blast. They did not provide any details regarding casualties.

Preliminary reports indicated that the bomber detonated at the primary gate, enabling several armed attackers to breach the camp. Continuous gunfire and multiple explosions were heard for more than an hour, and clashes were still underway at the time of reporting.

No group initially claimed responsibility. However, later on Sunday, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) announced that a sub-unit of its organization had carried out a “heavy attack” on what it described as the central compound used by foreign personnel working on the Reko Diq and Saindak mining projects in Nokundi, TBP reported. The group said the operation was ongoing and that a detailed statement would be issued upon its conclusion. Pakistani officials have not responded to the BLF’s claims.

The attack adds to a surge of armed incidents across Balochistan in the past 24 hours, during which militant groups have targeted Pakistani forces with IED blasts, ambushes, and assaults on checkpoints in several regions.

Experts noted that the recent wave of attacks underscores the ability of Baloch armed groups to strike “where and when they wish,” despite extensive security measures. They pointed out that internet services, transportation routes, and several urban centers have been shut down in recent days to prevent attacks, yet armed groups have still managed to carry out operations in multiple areas, according to TBP.

Chagai district, the site of the ongoing attack, is home to the Reko Diq copper and gold deposits—among the world’s largest undeveloped reserves—which are central to Pakistan’s mining and investment priorities, TBP highlighted.
