Monsoon Rains Claim 111 Lives Across Pakistan

Monsoon rains claims 111 lives across Pakistan

Islamabad [Pakistan], July 16 (ANI): At least 111 people have died and 212 others have been injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan since the onset of the monsoon season on June 26, according to a report released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), ARY News reported.

The NDMA data reveal that the majority of deaths have been caused by flash floods, which continue to pose the most severe threat this year. Other fatalities were attributed to building collapses and various weather-related accidents.

In the past 24 hours alone, six additional fatalities were recorded, highlighting the ongoing danger from heavy rains and unstable weather conditions. The NDMA underscored that flash flooding remains the leading cause of the high death toll, with structural failures and other rain-induced hazards further aggravating the crisis.

Widespread rainfall has lashed cities across the country, breaking an extended heatwave and significantly lowering temperatures. However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rains and thunderstorms through July 17, raising the risk of additional flooding and disruptions.

According to the forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Islamabad through July 17. Northeastern and southern Balochistan are also likely to see rain and thunderstorms until July 16.

In Sindh, rain is predicted for the districts of Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Khairpur, and Shaheed Benazirabad until July 16, with light showers expected in Karachi as well.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and heed weather advisories as the monsoon continues to impact the region.
