Colombo [Sri Lanka], April 3 (ANI): Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, emphasized the significance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Sri Lanka, stating that it will strengthen existing ties and introduce new areas of cooperation.

Key Highlights from the Indian Envoy’s Statement:

  • PM Modi is the first foreign guest under Sri Lanka’s new government.
  • The visit will advance the existing partnership and introduce a new agenda.
  • Three key focus areas: Connectivity, Energy, and Digitization.
  • Health and Defence Cooperation agreements are also expected.

Strengthening India-Sri Lanka Relations

Jha reiterated that bilateral relations “have never been stronger” and that PM Modi’s visit marks a continuation of high-level engagements.

  • In December 2024, Sri Lankan President Dissanayake chose India as his first foreign visit, highlighting the growing partnership.
  • The visit will enhance cooperation in trade, security, and infrastructure development.

PM Modi’s Itinerary in Sri Lanka:

  • April 4-6: Official visit to Sri Lanka.
  • April 5: Diplomatic meetings and agreements in Colombo.
  • April 6: Visit to Anuradhapuram, a significant cultural and religious site.

With agreements in energy, digital connectivity, healthcare, and defence, PM Modi’s visit is expected to further solidify India-Sri Lanka ties and chart a new path for future collaborations. (ANI)
