PM Modi in Brazil's Indian diaspora

Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], July 6 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Indian community in Brazil for their vibrant welcome and deep-rooted connection to Indian culture as he arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday to attend the 17th BRICS Summit.

Sharing his sentiments on X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Members of Brazil’s Indian community gave a very vibrant welcome in Rio de Janeiro. It’s amazing how they remain connected with Indian culture and are also very passionate about India’s development! Here are some glimpses from the welcome.”

Earlier in the day, PM Modi landed in Rio de Janeiro and expressed optimism about his visit, which includes the BRICS Summit and a subsequent state visit to Brasília at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I will take part in the BRICS Summit and later go to their capital, Brasília, for a state visit on the invitation of President Lula. Hoping for a productive round of meetings and interactions during this visit,” he posted on X.

Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister was greeted by jubilant members of the Indian diaspora, who performed traditional dances and music to welcome him. A notable highlight was a cultural dance themed on “Operation Sindoor,” which commemorated India’s recent strategic military response to asymmetric terrorist threats. According to an official release, Operation Sindoor targeted terrorist infrastructure with deliberate precision, without crossing the Line of Control or international boundary, following an April 2025 terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam.

Modi also witnessed a musical performance of traditional prayer songs, reflecting the community’s strong cultural ties.

Brazil is the fourth stop in the Prime Minister’s five-nation tour. During his four-day visit, he will participate in the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit from July 6–7, where discussions will focus on key global issues including peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, responsible use of artificial intelligence, climate action, global health, and economic and financial cooperation.

The visit is expected to further strengthen India-Brazil ties and enhance collaboration within the BRICS framework. (ANI)
