Doda (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], April 28 (ANI): On Monday morning, the Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out raids at 13 locations in the Doda district as part of an ongoing effort to dismantle terrorist hideouts and take action against individuals linked to terror activities. This operation follows the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including a Nepalese national, and left many others injured.
In a related development, earlier, the Srinagar Police had conducted extensive searches across the city, targeting the residences of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and terrorist associates tied to banned terrorist organizations. These actions are part of an ongoing investigation into cases filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
According to a police statement, the Srinagar Police executed searches at the homes of 63 individuals. The operations were conducted in compliance with legal procedures, under the supervision of J&K Police officers and in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses.
The searches aimed to seize weapons, documents, digital devices, and other materials crucial for gathering evidence and intelligence to prevent and disrupt any conspiratorial or terrorist activities that could threaten national security.
Meanwhile, Rakesh Wazir, president of the Hotel and Restaurant Association in Katra, commented on the broader impact of the Pahalgam attack, noting a significant decline in tourist bookings across the region. “The Pahalgam terrorist attack has had a considerable effect on bookings. We have seen continuous cancellations, with an estimated 35 to 37 percent of reservations being called off. The number of pilgrims has decreased significantly, from 45,000 to merely 20,000 to 22,000,” Wazir told ANI.
The nation continues to mourn the tragic loss of 26 lives in the attack on April 22 at Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam. The incident has prompted increased diplomatic action, as security concerns rise along the India-Pakistan border.
