Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 8 (ANI): On the occasion of World Oceans Day, a coastal cleaning drive was conducted at Muthunagar Beach in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, focusing on clearing plastic waste and raising awareness about marine pollution. Organisations such as Nehru Yugendra, Swachh Bharat, and Shakti Vidyalaya School participated in the beach cleanup. The event was jointly organised by Mera Yuva Bharat, Thoothukudi, and the Ocean Society of India.
Meanwhile, to mark World Oceans Day, broadcaster and biologist David Attenborough is set to release a special documentary titled ‘Ocean With David Attenborough’ on June 8 at 7 pm, airing on National Geographic and JioHotstar. The documentary aims to raise awareness about how audiences can contribute to saving the world’s oceans.
Speaking about the film, Attenborough said, “My lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery. Over the last hundred years, scientists and explorers have revealed remarkable new species, epic migrations, and dazzling, complex ecosystems beyond anything I could have imagined as a young man. In this film, we share those wonderful discoveries, uncover why our ocean is in such poor health, and, perhaps most importantly, show how it can bounce back to life.”
