South 24 Parganas, April 25 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday intensified his criticism of the central government, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been targeting him “round the clock.”
Addressing an election rally in South 24 Parganas ahead of the second phase of polling in West Bengal, Gandhi said that despite multiple legal and political challenges, he remains undeterred.
“Narendra Modi and the BJP target me round the clock. I face 36 cases; my government house has been taken away. My Lok Sabha membership was cancelled, and I was interrogated for 55 hours straight. But let one thing be clear—I do not fear Narendra Modi,” he said.
Earlier, speaking at a rally in Hooghly, Gandhi also criticized the Prime Minister’s handling of India’s relations with the United States, alleging undue influence by US President Donald Trump.
He claimed that a trade agreement with the US adversely affected India’s agriculture sector, small and medium industries, and energy security, while also raising concerns about data sharing.
Gandhi further targeted both the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, accusing them of corruption and poor governance. He alleged that economic policies such as demonetization and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) had negatively impacted small traders and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
He also criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that industrial growth in the state has declined and unemployment remains high.
Gandhi accused the TMC of involvement in financial irregularities, citing alleged scams such as the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund cases, and claimed that job opportunities in the state are limited.
His remarks come after the first phase of polling in West Bengal recorded a turnout of 91.78 percent, according to the Election Commission of India.
The second phase of voting is scheduled for April 29, with counting of votes set to take place on May 4. (ANI)
