,Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hamid Karra accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicising Operation Sindoor through the ongoing Tiranga rally. He alleged that BJP has hijacked the operation’s name and turned it into a political campaign, diminishing the role of the armed forces by prominently featuring BJP leaders in the rallies.
Tariq Hamid Karra stated that Operation Sindoor was a joint effort involving the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, CRPF, BSF, and CISF. However, the BJP’s Tiranga yatras, which are being organised across northern India, overshadow the armed forces with oversized images of BJP leaders. He asserted that the Congress party would hold its own programme to honour the armed forces from May 20 to May 30 without associating it with Operation Sindoor, focusing on genuinely respecting the military’s contributions.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in and led the Tiranga Yatra. He praised the Indian soldiers for making Operation Sindoor synonymous with the elimination of terrorism, acknowledging their bravery and sacrifice.
The BJP launched the Tiranga Yatra on May 13, and it will continue till May 23, aiming to honour the valour of Indian soldiers and raise awareness about Operation Sindoor’s success. The campaign began in Delhi with a symbolic march, showcasing a 108-foot-tall national flag, and involves nationwide press conferences and digital engagement to amplify its message.
Operation Sindoor was initiated on May 7 in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which claimed 26 civilian lives. Indian forces swiftly retaliated, eliminating over 100 terrorists across the border. Despite a counteroffensive from Pakistan, India responded firmly, leading to a ceasefire and reaffirming its defence stance. Through the Tiranga Yatra, BJP aims to foster nationalism and unity across the country.
