Washington DC [US], April 3 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has announced a 26% tariff on Indian imports, citing unfair trade practices. Speaking at the Make America Wealthy Again Event, Trump accused India of charging 52% tariffs on American goods while the US imposes “almost nothing” in return.
“India is very, very tough. The Prime Minister just left and is a great friend of mine, but you are not treating us right. They charge us 52%, and we charge them almost nothing…” Trump said.
Global Tariff Increases
Alongside India, Trump announced new import tariffs for several countries, including:
- China: 34%
- European Union: 20%
- Vietnam: 46%
- Taiwan: 32%
- Japan: 24%
- India: 26%
- United Kingdom: 10%
- Bangladesh: 37%
- Pakistan: 29%
- Sri Lanka: 44%
- Israel: 17%
Tariffs on Automobiles
Trump also revealed a 25% tariff on all foreign-made automobiles, arguing that imbalances in trade have hurt the US economy and national security.
“Such horrendous imbalances have devastated our industrial base. I don’t blame these other countries—I blame former presidents and past leaders who weren’t doing their job. Effective at midnight, we will impose a 25% tariff on all foreign-made automobiles,” he said.
“America Has Been Ripped Off for 50 Years”
Trump emphasized that the US would no longer tolerate trade exploitation, declaring the tariffs as a “Declaration of Economic Independence.”
“Our country and its taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years, but it is not going to happen anymore,” Trump stated.
The White House confirmed that the tariffs will take effect immediately.
