Washington, April 29 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that Britain’s King Charles III supports Washington’s position on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons, making the remarks during a White House state dinner held in honour of the visiting monarch.
The statement came during a formal diplomatic dinner that formed part of the King’s visit to the United States, where both leaders were present alongside senior officials.
Shifting from ceremonial remarks to geopolitical issues, Trump referenced ongoing tensions in West Asia and the US-Israeli position on Iran.
“We’re doing a little Middle East work right now, and we’re doing very well,” Trump said during his address.
He further asserted that the United States remains firmly committed to stopping Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and suggested that King Charles shares this view.
“We have militarily defeated that particular opponent, and we’re never going to let that opponent ever… Charles agrees with me even more than I do—we’re never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.
The comments, however, have drawn attention due to the constitutional role of the British monarch, who is expected to remain politically neutral as head of state.
According to a CNN report, Trump’s remarks place the King in a diplomatically sensitive position, as Buckingham Palace typically does not comment on private conversations involving the monarch.
The report noted that such disclosures are considered a breach of established protocol, which holds that private discussions with the monarch are not meant to be made public.
CNN also pointed out that this is not the first time Trump has revealed details of private conversations with the British royal family, citing previous instances involving discussions with the King and the late Queen Elizabeth II during earlier visits. (ANI)
