Washington [US], June 24 (ANI): U.S. President Donald Trump has been officially nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize by Republican Congressman Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), who credited Trump with brokering the ceasefire between Israel and Iran and taking decisive steps to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons, Fox News reported.
In a letter to the Nobel Committee, Rep. Carter described Trump’s role in ending the 12-day conflict as “extraordinary and historic.” He praised the President’s intervention in halting hostilities between the two nations and averting a wider war in the Middle East.
“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” Carter wrote. “President Trump also took bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring a nuclear weapon.”
The nomination follows Trump’s announcement on Monday that the conflict—dubbed the “12 Day War”—would end with a ceasefire taking effect overnight on Tuesday. The escalation began on June 13 after Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, citing growing concerns over Iran’s nuclear weapons program. The situation intensified with reciprocal missile and drone strikes by Iran and a series of U.S. airstrikes over the weekend, codenamed “Operation Midnight Hammer,” targeting Iran’s critical nuclear infrastructure.
On Monday, Iran launched a retaliatory rocket attack on the U.S.-operated Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, although prior warnings were issued to U.S. and Qatari officials, and no casualties were reported.
Carter’s letter commended Trump for his “courage and clarity” during the crisis and argued that his actions embodied the spirit of the Nobel Peace Prize: “the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony.”
Trump responded to the nomination by sharing a screenshot of the Fox News article on his Truth Social account, along with a copy of the nomination letter addressed to the Nobel Committee.
This is not Trump’s first nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. Earlier this year, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) had nominated him as well, citing his sweeping victory in the 2024 presidential election and its global ramifications.
According to the Nobel Prize website, a total of 338 individuals and organizations have been nominated for the 2025 Peace Prize so far. Trump’s inclusion adds a significant political dimension to this year’s race, coming at a time when global tensions remain high and diplomacy continues to be tested in several flashpoints across the world.
