U.S. Defense Secretary Confirms Success of Operation Against Iran, Says Nuclear Ambitions Are ‘Obliterated’

US defence Secretary confirms success of operation against Iran

Washington, D.C. [US], June 22 (ANI): U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Sunday confirmed the success of the U.S. military’s operation targeting Iranian nuclear facilities. Speaking alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Dan Caine, Hegseth announced that the strikes—ordered by President Donald Trump—effectively dismantled Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

“Last night, on President Trump’s order, the U.S. Central Command conducted a precision strike in the middle of the night against three nuclear facilities in Iran—Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz—in order to destroy or severely degrade Iran’s nuclear program. As the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs will demonstrate, it was an incredible and overwhelming success,” Hegseth stated during a media briefing.

He emphasized that the President’s instructions were unambiguous and that the mission succeeded in obliterating Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

“The order we received from our Commander-in-Chief was focused, it was powerful, and it was clear. We devastated the Iranian nuclear program,” he said.

Hegseth also clarified that the strikes were deliberately limited in scope and avoided targeting Iranian personnel or civilians. “But it’s worth noting that the operation did not target Iranian troops or the Iranian people,” he added.

The Defense Secretary credited President Trump’s long-standing stance on nuclear non-proliferation in Iran for the decisive action. “For the entirety of his time in office, President Trump has consistently stated for over 10 years that Iran must not get a nuclear weapon—full stop. Thanks to President Trump’s bold and visionary leadership and his commitment to peace through strength, Iran’s nuclear ambitions have been obliterated. Many Presidents have dreamed of delivering the final blow to Iran’s nuclear program, and none could—until President Trump,” Hegseth asserted.

He praised the scope and execution of the military operation, describing it as unparalleled in scale and precision. “The operation President Trump planned was bold, and it was brilliant. Showing the world that American deterrence is back. When this President speaks, the world should listen. And the U.S. military? We can back it up. The most powerful military the world has ever known. No other country on the planet could have conducted this operation,” he declared.

The strikes, launched late Saturday (U.S. local time), targeted Iran’s underground nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Shortly after the strikes, President Trump, speaking from the White House, announced that the United States had carried out “massive precision” operations and warned of further retaliation if peace was not achieved.

Iran condemned the strikes, calling them a violation of international law, and vowed to continue its nuclear program despite the damage inflicted. (ANI)
