ABU DHABI, June 11 — The United Arab Emirates has launched an urgent humanitarian response to assist communities affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the southern coast of the Philippines, killing 35 people and injuring more than 200 others.
Through the UAE Aid Agency, emergency relief assistance is being provided to support those impacted by the disaster and help communities begin recovery efforts.
Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, said the swift response reflects the UAE’s commitment to supporting countries facing humanitarian crises and natural disasters.
“This urgent UAE response stems from the country’s international responsibility toward communities and peoples facing natural disasters and crises. We aim to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the earthquake and help with early recovery and stability in coordination with international organizations and relevant local authorities,” Al Ameri said.
He noted that the relief operation was based on a comprehensive assessment of needs conducted in coordination with Philippine authorities and international partners to identify priority requirements for affected communities.
According to Al Ameri, the UAE is focused on delivering essential humanitarian assistance as quickly as possible, guided by assessments and recommendations from relevant United Nations agencies.
The UAE also expressed its solidarity with the Republic of the Philippines following the devastating earthquake that struck the Mindanao region.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and extended its sympathies to the government and people of the Philippines.
The ministry also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the disaster.
The humanitarian assistance underscores the UAE’s continued commitment to providing emergency aid and disaster relief to countries affected by natural calamities around the world. (ANI/WAM)
