New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI): In response to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases across India, the Union Health Ministry conducted a series of technical review meetings on June 2 and 3. The meetings were chaired by Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), and included key representatives from multiple agencies and states.
Participants included officials from the Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response (EMR) Cell, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Central Government Hospitals in Delhi, and representatives from all States and Union Territories.
As of June 4, 2025, India has reported 4,302 active COVID-19 cases, marking an increase of 864 cases in the previous 24 hours. The majority of cases are mild and are being managed under home care protocols. Since January 1, 2025, there have been 44 reported deaths, mainly involving patients with pre-existing health conditions.
States have been directed to ensure the availability of essential healthcare infrastructure, including oxygen supply, isolation beds, ventilators, and critical medicines. A mock drill to assess oxygen supply systems—covering PSA plants, Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) tanks, and Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS)—was successfully conducted on June 2, with further facility-level preparedness drills scheduled for June 4 and 5.
Surveillance units at the State and District levels under the IDSP are actively monitoring Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases. Testing protocols recommend screening all admitted SARI patients and 5% of ILI cases, with positive SARI samples forwarded for Whole Genome Sequencing through the ICMR VRDL network.
The public has been urged to maintain strict hand hygiene, cough etiquette, and to avoid crowded places, especially when unwell. Individuals experiencing acute respiratory symptoms should self-monitor and promptly seek medical care if symptoms worsen.
The Ministry emphasizes following reliable information sources such as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) website and Press Information Bureau (PIB) releases to combat misinformation.
The Union Health Ministry continues to closely monitor the evolving situation and remains committed to safeguarding public health through timely action and transparent communication. (ANI)
