Washington, DC [US], June 7 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that representatives from the United States and China will meet in London on June 9 to discuss ongoing trade issues. The announcement came a day after Trump held a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “I am pleased to announce that Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and United States Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer, will be meeting in London on Monday, June 9, 2025, with Representatives of China, with reference to the Trade Deal.” He added, “The meeting should go very well. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday, Trump said he had a “good conversation” with Xi and that both leaders worked through the complexities of the trade deal. Trump revealed that Xi had invited him to visit China and that he had extended a reciprocal invitation to Xi to visit the United States.
“We had a very good talk and we’ve straightened out any complexity,” Trump said. “It’s very complex stuff and we straightened it out. The agreement was we’re going to have Scott and Howard and Jameson go and meet with their top people and continue it forward. But no, I think we have everything. I think we’re in very good shape with China and the trade deal. We have a deal with China, as you know, but we were straightening out some of the points, having to do mostly with rare earth, magnets and some other things.”
Trump also mentioned on Truth Social that his call with Xi lasted one and a half hours and led to a “very positive conclusion of both nations.”
The upcoming talks follow recent tensions between the two nations. On May 30, Trump accused China of breaching a trade agreement negotiated in Geneva the previous month to roll back tariffs for 90 days. China has denied the allegations, stating that the US is provoking “new economic and trade frictions.” (ANI)
