NEW DELHI, May 19 (ANI): The United States Embassy in India on Tuesday said it is looking forward to welcoming US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his first official visit to India, where he is expected to participate in ministerial-level Quad meetings and high-level diplomatic engagements.
In a post on X, the US mission said, “The U.S. Embassy in India looks forward to welcoming @SecRubio for his first visit to India, ministerial Quad meetings, high level engagements, and celebrating 250 years of America.”
The visit is expected to further strengthen strategic ties between India and the United States and reinforce cooperation under the Quad framework involving India, the United States, Japan, and Australia.
Earlier this month, US Ambassador Sergio Gor also expressed enthusiasm about Rubio’s upcoming trip, describing India as a critical strategic partner for Washington.
“Looking forward to welcoming my good friend Secretary Rubio to India! The United States deeply values our growing partnership with India, and we are excited to build even stronger ties that will benefit both our nations and the world,” Gor said in a post on X.
Rubio’s visit will mark his first official trip to India since assuming office as Secretary of State.
A key focus of the visit is expected to be participation in the proposed ministerial-level Quad meeting to be hosted by India.
Speaking in a recent interview, Ambassador Gor said preparations for the Quad dialogue are already underway and noted that Rubio is keen to explore more of India beyond New Delhi.
“We’re looking forward to hosting a ministerial-level Quad meeting in India. This will be the Secretary’s first visit to the country, and he is keen to visit not just Delhi but other places as well. India is vitally important to us and an incredible partner,” he said.
The ambassador also highlighted the close relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, stating that the two leaders have remained in regular contact.
Gor added that following consultations in Washington with senior US officials, several major bilateral initiatives and “big-ticket items” related to India-US cooperation are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. (ANI)
