KUWAIT CITY, June 11 (ANI) — Amid rapidly escalating tensions across West Asia and the Gulf region, Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain issued emergency alerts as air defense systems intercepted aerial threats and regional security concerns intensified.
In a post on X, the Kuwaiti Army said its air defense systems were actively engaging “hostile aerial targets” and urged residents to follow official safety and security instructions.
According to Al Jazeera, Kuwait closed its airspace and initiated defensive measures in response to reported missile and drone attacks.
Air raid sirens were also activated again in Bahrain. The country’s Interior Ministry confirmed that warning sirens had been sounded and advised residents to remain calm, proceed to the nearest safe location, and follow updates from official sources.
Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported that Jordan activated its air defense systems following what it described as Iranian missile attacks targeting a US military base.
The US Embassy in Jordan issued a security alert, stating: “Reports indicate missiles, drones, or rockets are in Jordanian airspace. Seek overhead cover and shelter in place immediately. Remain indoors and pay attention to local announcements and alerts.”
The developments come as Iranian officials announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in response to recent US military strikes.
Earlier Thursday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had conducted additional “self-defense strikes” against multiple targets in Iran at the direction of the Commander in Chief.
According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems, and air defense sites across the country.
“U.S. Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy assets fired precision munitions on Iranian targets that posed a threat to U.S. forces and international commercial ships transiting regional waters,” CENTCOM said.
The command added that the strikes were carried out in response to Iran’s “unwarranted and continued aggression.”
Iranian media reported explosions in Sirik, Karaj, and Abyek in Qazvin province, according to Al Jazeera.
The network also cited Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as saying that 18 significant US military-related sites were targeted, including Ali Al-Salem Air Base and Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait, as well as Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, as part of Tehran’s response to US military operations.
As tensions continued to mount, Press TV reported that IRGC Commander Gen. Sayed Majid Mousavi warned that the region could be turned into “hell” if the United States continued actions threatening the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest developments mark a significant escalation in the confrontation between the United States and Iran, raising concerns about regional stability and the security of critical global shipping routes. (ANI)
