New Delhi [India], June 25 (ANI): Air India held a solemn memorial service on Tuesday at its corporate headquarters in Gurugram to honor the memory of the crew members lost in the tragic crash of flight AI171. The service, marked by grief and solidarity, brought together employees from across departments and was live-streamed to all Air India offices and the airline’s Training Academy, enabling the wider Air India family to participate in remembrance.

Addressing the gathering, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson struggled to hold back emotion as he spoke about the profound loss felt across the organization. “There are no words that can truly capture what we’re feeling. Each of us will carry this loss in our own way, but together, we have a shared responsibility—to honour our colleagues’ memory, their service, and their spirit through the way we move forward,” Wilson said.

A moment of silence opened the ceremony, setting a tone of quiet reflection. Moving tributes followed from colleagues who had known the lost crew personally. Several pilots and cabin crew members shared heartfelt memories, stories of camaraderie, and the professionalism of their fallen friends. One crew member recited a touching poem written in memory of those who perished, while another emotionally played the last voice note they had received from a colleague aboard AI171—a moment that moved many to tears.

The service concluded with a candlelighting and floral tribute. Employees gathered around a memorial display adorned with photographs of the AI171 crew, lighting candles and offering flowers in a silent, collective act of remembrance. “Many could not hold back their tears,” a source within the airline shared. “It was a moment of shared grief and profound respect.”

The tragedy occurred on June 12, when a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into the hostel complex of BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad’s Meghani Nagar area, shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Of the 242 individuals on board—230 passengers and 12 crew members—241 lost their lives. The disaster also claimed 34 lives on the ground.

For Air India, the AI171 crash has left a deep void. Yet, Tuesday’s memorial reflected the airline’s unity and resilience, and its commitment to carry forward the legacy of those who served with honor.
