New Delhi [India], May 12 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow on Monday over the tragic loss of lives in a road accident in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. In a heartfelt message, she extended her condolences to the families affected and wished a swift recovery for those injured.

“The news of the death of many people, including children and women, in a road accident in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” President Murmu posted on X.

The accident occurred on Sunday, claiming the lives of 13 people and injuring 14 others when a truck collided with a trailer near Saragaon on the Raipur-Balodabazar Road.

Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao also expressed his condolences on Monday, describing the accident as a tragic incident. He assured that an investigation would be conducted and that strict action would be taken against those found responsible.

“Thirteen people have died in a road accident. It is a tragic incident. I express my condolences to the families of the deceased. The incident will be investigated, and strict action will be taken against the culprit. The affected families will be given all the requisite help,” Arun Sao stated.

Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel voiced his concern over the rise in road accidents across the state, urging the government to address the issue urgently. He also called on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government to provide ex gratia payments to the victims’ families and to implement preventive measures.

“Including yesterday and today, a total of 23 people have died in various road accidents. I express my condolences. I urge the government to take road accidents seriously and not only provide compensation but also come up with solutions to reduce such incidents,” Baghel stated.

SSP Lal Umed Singh provided further details, saying that the victims were returning to Chataud after attending a function when their vehicle collided with a truck. “Some people from village Chataud had gone to another village to attend a function. They were returning to their place when their vehicle collided with a truck. Many people got injured in the incident. A total of 13 people died and 14 were injured,” Singh said.

The accident has reignited discussions on road safety and the need for better infrastructure and regulatory measures in Chhattisgarh. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause and accountability.
