WANA, Pakistan, June 24 (ANI) — A government girls’ primary school was destroyed in an explosion caused by explosive materials in the Sara Ghowara area of Birmal tehsil in South Waziristan late Tuesday night, according to a report by Dawn.
District Police Officer Muhammad Tahir Shah confirmed that the blast completely demolished the school building. According to Dawn, police have registered an initial report and launched an investigation. No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident comes amid a series of attacks targeting educational institutions in Lower South Waziristan in recent months. According to local police and residents cited by Dawn, repeated strikes on school infrastructure have raised concerns about security in the region and the safety of educational facilities.
The latest attack follows similar incidents in Birmal tehsil, where two schools were targeted in separate attacks during February and March.
Local community leaders and residents told Dawn that the repeated destruction of schools threatens educational opportunities for children, particularly girls, who already face significant challenges in accessing education in remote and conflict-affected areas.
Similar incidents have also been reported in neighboring districts. In December 2025, a government-run girls’ school in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, was destroyed in an explosion. Earlier, in October, another government primary school for girls in the Wanda Zahidgul area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district was also demolished using explosives. (ANI)
