Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], July 7 (ANI): India is set to sign four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Brazil during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit on July 8 — the first by an Indian prime minister in 57 years — Indian Ambassador to Brazil Dinesh Bhatia announced on Sunday.

Speaking at a special Ministry of External Affairs media briefing in Rio de Janeiro, Bhatia said PM Modi’s visit comes at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and underscores the strengthening of bilateral ties.

“During the state visit, the Prime Minister will be accorded a ceremonial welcome, followed by bilateral talks between the two delegations led by their respective leaders,” Bhatia said. “After the talks, we expect to sign four agreements or MoUs between the two countries — on renewable energy, counterterrorism, agricultural research cooperation between the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Brazil’s MMR, and on exchange and mutual production of confidential information.”

Bhatia noted that these agreements have been finalized and are scheduled to be signed in Brasilia on July 8.

“It’s after 57 years that the Prime Minister of India is paying a state visit to Brazil, and he will be treated as a state guest,” Bhatia added, highlighting the historic nature of the visit.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi addressed the BRICS Summit Plenary session on “Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic-Financial Affairs, and Artificial Intelligence,” emphasizing the need to make the BRICS platform more effective in an increasingly multipolar world.

In a post on X, Modi wrote: “Addressed the BRICS Summit Plenary session on ‘Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic-Financial Affairs, and Artificial Intelligence.’ Focused on how to make the BRICS platform even more effective in this increasingly multipolar world.”

During the summit, BRICS leaders also welcomed India’s candidacy to host the 33rd Conference of the Parties (COP 33) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2028.
