TEHRAN, June 28 (ANI) — Iran on Sunday accused Italy of providing “technical and logistical” support to the United States during the recent conflict, sharply criticizing Rome’s denial of involvement and calling the alleged assistance a violation of international law.
Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Italy’s position reflected a “glaring contradiction,” arguing that public denials of participation were inconsistent with acknowledged support.
In a post on X, Baqaei wrote that Italy’s alleged actions amounted to “a grave internationally wrongful act” and said providing “technical and logistical” assistance to the United States and Israel constituted “a clear and direct contribution” to what he described as an “illegal war of choice.”
He further called the alleged support “a blatant act of aggression” and a serious violation of international law.
Italy has rejected Iran’s allegations. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani previously stated during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi that Italy had not participated in any military operations and had not authorized the use of its bases for actions against Iran, in line with its agreements with the United States.
Tajani also urged the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and called for the resumption of normal maritime traffic, particularly for Italian commercial vessels affected by regional tensions.
In a separate post on X, Tajani emphasized that Italy remained committed to dialogue and said the reopening of the Italian embassy in Tehran was intended as a signal of continued engagement aimed at restoring economic and cultural relations. (ANI)
