FLORIDA, February 22 — A man in his early 20s was shot and killed by agents of the U.S. Secret Service and a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly entering the secure perimeter of Mar-a-Lago early Sunday, authorities said.

According to an official statement, the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. local time when the individual was observed near the north gate of the property carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can. The estate, located in Palm Beach, is the Florida residence of former President Donald Trump.

Secret Service agents and a sheriff’s deputy confronted the individual, and shots were fired during the encounter. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Officials confirmed that no Secret Service personnel or sheriff’s deputies were injured during the incident. Authorities also said that no Secret Service protectees were present at the location at the time.

The shooting is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Secret Service, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. The probe will examine the individual’s background, actions, potential motive, and the circumstances surrounding the use of force.

In accordance with agency policy, the Secret Service agents involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
