New Delhi [India], April 15 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday met Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, who is on his first official visit to India, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Delighted to call on Federal Chancellor Dr. Christian Stocker of Austria, as he begins his first official visit to India.” He added, “Confident that his discussions with PM Narendra Modi tomorrow will open new avenues for greater cooperation across various domains.”
The high-level engagement followed the chancellor’s arrival earlier in the day. Welcoming him, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “A warm welcome to Federal Chancellor Dr. Christian Stocker of Austria on his first official visit to India. He was received by Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse at the airport. India and Austria share a warm and friendly relationship. Chancellor Stocker’s visit will impart further momentum to the enhanced India-Austria partnership.”
The four-day visit marks Stocker’s first trip to India and his first official visit to Asia since assuming office in 2025. During his stay in New Delhi, he is scheduled to hold comprehensive discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on expanding cooperation in key sectors, including green technology and economic exchange.
Stocker is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising business leaders, senior ministers, and government officials, underscoring the economic significance of the visit. Both countries are expected to explore collaboration in digital innovation, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing.
The engagement builds on growing economic and diplomatic ties between India and Austria. In addition to bilateral cooperation, the leaders are expected to exchange views on regional and global issues, as well as collaboration within international organizations.
India and Austria share a long-standing relationship based on mutual trust and shared democratic values. The visit also builds on the momentum generated during Prime Minister Modi’s 2024 visit to Austria, with both sides aiming to deepen the partnership and expand strategic and economic cooperation.
The current visit follows earlier diplomatic engagements, including the eighth session of the India-Austria Foreign Office Consultations held in Vienna on December 12. During that meeting, officials reviewed bilateral relations and explored ways to strengthen India-EU ties, laying the groundwork for the ongoing high-level discussions. (ANI)
