New Delhi [India], May 3 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed chargesheets against three individuals connected to the banned ISIS/ISJK terrorist group in the 2024 Srinagar market grenade attack case. The attack, which occurred on November 3, 2024, in the busy Sunday Market near TRC, Srinagar, resulted in the death of one woman and left several others injured.
The three accused named in the chargesheet are Sheikh Usama Yaseen, Umar Fayaz Sheikh, and Afnan Mansoor Naik. They have been charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). All three are currently in judicial custody.
Usama and Umar were arrested on November 7, just days after the attack, while Afnan was apprehended on November 8. The trio is accused of planning, conspiring, and executing the grenade attack to create fear and panic in the region, which was part of a larger strategy to destabilize public order and further the violent agenda of terrorist organizations with support from across the border.
The NIA’s investigation, which was initiated in January 2025, has also uncovered the involvement of other terrorist groups in the broader conspiracy behind the attack. The investigation (RC-01/2025/NIA/JMU) is ongoing, with authorities working to identify additional individuals or networks connected to the incident.
