Assam aids terror victim

Guwahati (Assam) [India], May 24 (ANI): The Assam government has extended financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the family of Bitan Adhikari, a victim of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Assam Minister Krishnendu Paul personally delivered the aid on behalf of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, offering condolences to the bereaved family.

Minister Paul visited the victim’s residence in Kolkata on Saturday and met Adhikari’s wife, Sohini Roy. In a post on X, Paul stated, “Arrived at the residence of Late Bitan Adhikari in Kolkata to meet his wife, Sohini Roy. Late Bitan Adhikari was an unfortunate victim who was shot dead at point-blank range in a terrorist attack at Pahalgam on April 22, 2025.”

He added, “On behalf of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji, I handed over a cheque of Rs 5 (Five) lakhs to the next of kin of the victim, along with a heartfelt condolence message.”

Chief Minister Sarma also expressed solidarity with the victims of the deadly attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. In a message shared on X, Sarma stated, “Though we can never fill the void that Late Bitan Adhikari has left in the lives of Smt. Sohini and the young child, we have extended a token of assistance from the people of Assam to help them in this tough time.”

In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Government of India is deploying multi-party parliamentary delegations to various countries to explain India’s position and response. These delegations aim to highlight the country’s strategic restraint and targeted actions during Operation Sindoor.

DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, currently leading an all-party delegation to Russia, reiterated India’s stance on terrorism, noting that links to such attacks are “always traced back to Pakistan.” Speaking to the media in Moscow, she said, “India had no choice but to respond. But when India responded, we responded responsibly. We ensured no civilian was affected. We (during Operation Sindoor) only targeted the installations where terrorists were sheltered and trained. They resorted to military aggression and targeted gurdwaras, temples, residential areas where Indian civilians lived, and even our military bases.”
