OSLO, Norway, May 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that democracy, rule of law, and a shared commitment to multilateralism make India and Nordic countries “natural partners,” as he took part in the third India-Nordic Summit in Oslo.
In a joint statement following the summit, Modi highlighted expanding research and innovation linkages between India and Nordic nations, emphasizing skill development, talent mobility, and technology cooperation as key drivers of future growth.
“I am delighted to have participated in the 3rd India-Nordic Summit today. First of all, I express heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister of Norway for hosting this Summit. I welcome all Nordic leaders here. Democracy, rule of law and our shared commitment to multilateralism make us natural partners,” he said.
The summit brought together leaders from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark, including Kristrun Frostadottir, Jonas Gahr Støre, Ulf Kristersson, Petteri Orpo, and Mette Frederiksen.
The engagement focused on strengthening cooperation in innovation, education, clean energy, and sustainable development, with an emphasis on building resilient supply chains and expanding economic ties.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the discussions aim to further boost trade and investment links between India and Nordic countries, particularly in the context of ongoing trade agreements with European partners.
Officials noted that the visit marks the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in 43 years and forms part of a wider multi-nation tour covering the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy.
The summit also builds on earlier India-Nordic engagements held in Stockholm in 2018 and Copenhagen in 2022, reinforcing long-term cooperation between the two regions.
