New Delhi [India], October 21 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid heartfelt tributes to India’s police personnel on Police Commemoration Day, honoring their courage, dedication, and sacrifices in safeguarding the nation.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “On Police Commemoration Day, we salute the courage of our police personnel and recall the supreme sacrifice by them in the line of duty. Their steadfast dedication keeps our nation and people safe. Their bravery and commitment in times of crisis and in moments of need are appreciable.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also participated in the Police Commemoration Day programme at the National Police Memorial in Delhi, paying homage to the bravehearts who laid down their lives in service of the nation.

Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 to honor the ten valiant policemen who were killed in an ambush by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959. In recognition of the sacrifices of police personnel, the Prime Minister dedicated the National Police Memorial (NPM) in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, in 2018. The memorial features a 30-foot-high granite monolith, the ‘Wall of Valour’, and a museum showcasing the history and evolution of policing in India.

From October 22 to 30, CAPFs and CPOs organise various commemorative events at the NPM, including visits by families of fallen heroes, police band displays, motorcycle rallies, runs in honor of fallen officers, blood donation drives, and essay and painting competitions for children. Similar programs are held across India, celebrating the valour, sacrifice, and service of police personnel. (ANI)
