Islamabad, April 25 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held high-level talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday, as efforts to host a second round of US-Iran dialogue in Islamabad appeared to falter.
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, discussions at the Prime Minister’s House focused on the evolving regional situation. The meeting was attended by Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, underscoring the military’s role in the country’s foreign policy deliberations.
Earlier in the day, Araghchi also met separately with Munir, highlighting ongoing coordination between Iran and Pakistan’s military leadership amid rising regional tensions.
The developments come as Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate talks between the United States and Iran face uncertainty. Reports indicate that Tehran has not agreed to meet the visiting US delegation, which includes Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
According to Pakistani media reports, Iran has conveyed its conditions directly to Washington, including demands related to the US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite extensive security arrangements in Islamabad, including restrictions in key areas of the capital, prospects for high-level negotiations between the two sides remain uncertain.
The situation follows an earlier round of talks hosted in Islamabad, which included US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, but did not produce a breakthrough.
As diplomatic efforts continue, the focus remains on whether indirect engagement through intermediaries can help revive dialogue between Washington and Tehran. (ANI)
