Salem (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 15 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, along with Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan and DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakanth, held a roadshow in Salem on Wednesday as part of campaigning for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The leaders also participated in a public meeting in the city, drawing large crowds of supporters and party workers as election campaigning intensified across the state.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a roadshow in Nagercoil in Kanniyakumari district on Wednesday.
He was accompanied by Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami during the event.
During the roadshow, PM Modi paid tribute to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Nagercoil and also offered floral tributes to AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister M. G. Ramachandran (MGR) as well as DMK founder and former Chief Minister C. N. Annadurai.
Local resident Angel Sharu said she was happy about the Prime Minister’s visit, calling it a proud moment for every Indian and praising his role in India’s development domestically and internationally.
“This is a proud moment as an Indian. He is actually doing a great job for India’s development in both domestic and international fronts,” she told ANI.
Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4.
The main contest is expected between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes the Congress, DMDK, and VCK, and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, which has the BJP and PMK as allies.
Actor-turned-politician Vijay is also set to make his electoral debut with his party TVK, potentially turning the contest into a three-way race.
