WASHINGTON, June 23 (ANI) — U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that 19 million barrels of oil moved through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, calling it a record level of maritime activity following a new diplomatic understanding with Iran.
“19 Millions barrels of oil flowed out of the Hormuz Strait (on Monday) — an all-time RECORD,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
He said oil prices were falling and described the development as evidence that global energy markets were stabilizing following the agreement.
“Oil prices are tumbling down, and the world is a much safer place!” he added.
Speaking at the White House, Trump reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz remained fully open and said the United States had achieved key strategic objectives through the diplomatic framework with Iran.
“We took in more oil yesterday than has ever gone through the Strait! We have an oil gusher. The Strait is totally open,” he said.
He added that the U.S. had ensured continued global energy flows through the key maritime route while also preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
“We have two things! We have an open strait and we have a country that will never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said.
The remarks come after Washington paused its economic restrictions on Iranian crude exports following a series of diplomatic talks in Switzerland involving U.S. and Iranian officials.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Tehran had agreed in principle to allow the return of U.N. nuclear inspectors as part of broader negotiations aimed at a final agreement.
Iranian officials, however, said discussions on nuclear oversight were limited and no detailed agreements had been finalized.
The negotiations are part of a broader framework established after a preliminary memorandum of understanding between the two sides following weeks of regional tensions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said sanctions on oil and petrochemical exports had been waived and some frozen assets released under the interim arrangement.
Despite diplomatic progress, regional tensions remain, with Israel continuing to express concerns over security developments in Lebanon and neighboring areas.
